Transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diodes are electronic components designed to protect sensitive electronics from high voltage transients. TVS diode can respond to over voltage events faster than most other types of circuit protection devices, and are offered in a variety of surface mount and through-hole circuit board mounting formats.
TVS diode is generally used to protect against very fast and often damaging voltage transients, such as lighting strikes, inductive load switching and electrostatic discharge (ESD,) with shorter response time than other types of circuit protection. Furthermore, TVS diode is used extensively for protection across more sensitive data lines on computer, telecom, industrial, consumer electronics and automotive markets.
